Assistant Professor in Horticulture

The Department of Plant Sciences, University of California, Davis, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate's research will focus on horticulture and integrative, whole plant biology with an emphasis on plant-soil interactions. Research would develop and apply knowledge of plant biology, rhizosphere ecology and plant-soil interactions to optimize plant performance under diverse environmental conditions and to help identify key traits and practices that increase resource efficiencies and improve management. The successful candidate will be expected to operate well in multi-disciplinary teams with the goal of developing practical solutions to critical issues related to sustainable horticultural production in California and around the world. Teaching is assigned by the department chair and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching of core courses in the Plant Sciences curriculum with an emphasis in the Environmental Horticulture and Urban Forestry undergraduate major. The candidate will also teach at the graduate level within her/his area of research expertise in the Horticulture and Agronomy, Plant Biology, International Agricultural Development and/or Ecology Graduate Groups. Advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is expected. It is anticipated that the candidate will collaborate with other scientists at UC Davis, Cooperative Extension specialists, farm advisors and researchers from other universities and agencies to address the mission of the department, college and Agricultural Experiment Station. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental, college, and campus committees and with state, regional and national organizations as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent level of experience in horticulture, agronomy, plant physiology, plant biology, plant ecology or related fields.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
