Application Information

Students currently enrolled in an associate degree, bachelor degree, master degree or Ph.D. program as well as recent graduates from associate or bachelor degree programs from any academic discipline – including social, natural, formal and applied science fields – are invited to apply. Underrepresented minority students are especially encouraged to apply.

Eligibility: Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Currently enrolled associate degree, bachelor degree, master degree or Ph.D. program as of Spring 2013; or recent graduates with an associate or bachelor degree after August 2012.
  • Completed general coursework in related field from an accredited institution, completion of upper level coursework preferred.
  • Interest in gaining practical skills for utilizing continental scale ecological data for social and policy level decisions
  • Knowledge of GIS or qGIS preferred, but not required.
  • Able to participate in complete workshop from Sunday, June 2, 2013 – Friday, June 7, 2013
  • Able to participate in one of two pre-workshop webinars. These will be scheduled in April and May of 2013

Applicants should be able to show interest in using scientific data to help citizens and decision-makers better understand the interaction of local and regional issues and the complexity of environmental decision-making.

This workshop is a enhancement of a 2010 workshop organized by ESA. This 2013 workshop is being offered in conjunction with an early career faculty workshop, organized by ESA’s Science Office, to develop macroscale ecology research agendas.
