Fellows use their academic training as they research, write, and report today’s headlines, sharpening their abilities to communicate complex scientific issues to the public.

American Geosciences Institute : AGI seeks outstanding geoscience or geo-related engineering students or entry level graduates (Bachelor’s or Master’s level) with a strong interest in federal science policy for the semester-lenght Geoscience Policy Internship.

Other Opportunities:

Post-graduate opportunities :

AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships : Providing opportunities for scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills in the federal policy realm. Learn more here.

          AAAS Related Society Supported Fellowships:

Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship : The Mirzayan Fellowship provides early career individuals with the opportunity to spend 12 weeks at the National Academies of Science in Washington, DC learning about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation. Approximately every two years, UCS will announce a competition for fellowships (up to two years in length) in topic areas identified by UCS and approved by our Science Fellows Advisory Committee.

California Council on Science and Technology Fellowship : California’s leadership in technology, environmental stewardship, biomedicine, and other critical fields relies on its policymakers having access to clearly communicated, scientifically informed advice. Each year the CCST Science Fellows program recruits a corps of fifteen PhD scientists and engineers. These Science Fellows spend one year in Sacramento, directly serving decision makers within the California State Legislature and Executive Branch.

Eagleton Science and Politics Fellowship (New Jersey): The Eagleton Science and Politics Fellowship offers PhD-level scientists and engineers the opportunity to apply their training and expertise to the development and implementation of relevant state policy. As full-time aides in the executive or legislative branch, Science Fellows bring their advanced technical skills to service in the New Jersey state government.

Career Scientists :

Jefferson Science Fellowship : The JSF is open to tenured, or similarly ranked, faculty from U.S. institutions of higher learning who are U.S. citizens. Selected Jefferson Science Fellows spend one year on assignment at the U.S. Department of State or USAID as science advisors on foreign policy/international development issues.

Leshner Leadership Institute : Each year, AAAS Leshner Fellows are selected from disciplines at the nexus of an important science-society issue. They convene for a week of intensive public engagement and science communication training and public engagement plan development.
