Please note the welcome dinner that begins at 6:00 pm on Monday, June 20th in the CCMIT dining room (just down the stairs that are near the bar on the ground floor of the residential building – look for us in the private dining area in the back). All participants are invited to attend!  If you are staying overnight at CCMIT, the cost of dinner is included in your accommodation package.  If you are not staying onsite and wish to attend, please do!  You can pay for your dinner separately onsite.

Lunch and refreshments during the course are included in your course fee.  Any additional guests who may accompany you can purchase lunch tickets for $18.50 at the front desk if desired. If you are not staying onsite but wish to purchase additional meals in the CCMIT dining room during the course, the prices are as follows:

  • Breakfast: $11.00
  • Dinner: $26.00

The course will be held in Room A300, in the Academic Building.  If you are facing the dining room stairs on the ground floor, proceed down the hallway to your right (away from check-in).  Then, exit right to take the outdoor breezeway to the Academic Building.  Upon entering the Academic Building, take the first left to reach the “North” academic wing.  You will pass the Memorabilia Room to your left and a small courtyard to your right.  Room A300 is at the end of that hallway, slightly to your left (next to the Planetarium).   Click here for a map of the CCMIT residential and academic buildings (pages 3-4).

Preparing for the Course:

We are asking all participants to complete several small tasks prior to the course to ensure you can “hit the ground running.”  Be sure to check out the Advance Preparation page!

Location & Accommodation:

Our 2016 SBI: Strategies for Success course will be held on June 21-23 at the Conference Center at the Maritime Institute (CCMIT) in Linthicum Heights, MD.  The Center is just minutes away from the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport and Train Station.

As a reminder, the 2016 course fee includes lunch and refreshments during each course day.  Participants are responsible for purchasing their own travel and accommodation.  Should participants wish to stay onsite at CCMIT, a comprehensive meeting package (including dinner, accommodation, and breakfast) is available for $139 per person, per night plus tax.

Participants who wish to book onsite accommodation should call the CCMIT Hotel Reservations number at (866) 900-3517 before May 27th.  Please be sure to mention you are part of the Ecological Society of America block.  After May 27th, CCMIT will release any remaining rooms, and onsite accommodation may no longer be available.

Detailed information about guest room accommodations are available here on the CCMIT website.  Some specific notes about the venue are below:

  • Check-in time is after 3:00 pm on your arrival day.
  • Check-out time is by 11:00 am on your day of departure.
  • High-speed internet is available in all guest rooms.
  • All meals will be provided onsite in the CCMIT dining room*, and refreshments will be provided during workshop breaks. Vegetarian meal options will be offered.**
  • Menus will be available onsite, and meal service hours in the CCMIT dining room are as follows:
    • Breakfast: 6:30 am – 9:00 am
    • Lunch: 11:15 am – 2:00 pm
    • Dinner: 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

*Dinner and breakfast are included in fees for onsite guests only.  If you wish to stay offsite but want to have all your meals at CCMIT, please contact us as soon as possible for information about purchasing meal tickets.

**Please notify us by May 27th if you have specific dietary concerns or if you require any special accommodations as provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Getting to CCMIT:

Because the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is only 4 miles away from CCMIT, we strongly recommend that those travelling to the workshop by plane use the BWI airport, if possible. CCMIT offers a free shuttle service to/from the BWI Airport, the BWI Amtrak Station, and the BWI Light Rail Station. Upon arrival at these locations, please call CCMIT’s front desk at (410) 859-5700, extension “0,” to schedule shuttle service. Please refer to the CCMIT website for more information on the free shuttle service and/or driving directions.

Other airports in the greater DC area include Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), which is approximately 36 miles from CCMIT, and Dulles International Airport (IAD), which is around 60 miles from CCMIT. If you prefer to use the DCA or IAD airports please research your ground transportation options before making your reservation. Using either of these airports will significantly increase the travel time and expense for ground transportation.  Feel free to contact us if you have travel questions at any point.

Please plan to arrive in the BWI area by 4:30 pm on June 20th, so that you can check in for the workshop and attend the evening group welcome event.  The course will conclude by 4:30 pm on Thursday, June 23rd.
