{"id":567,"date":"2024-06-07T18:34:04","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T18:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esa.org\/2023\/?page_id=567"},"modified":"2024-06-12T14:36:24","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T14:36:24","slug":"disseminating-ecological-knowledge","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/esa.org\/2023\/disseminating-ecological-knowledge\/","title":{"rendered":"Disseminating Ecological Knowledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_637\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/journal\/28353617\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-637\" class=\"size-full wp-image-637 img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/06\/earth-stewardship-disseminating_200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"264\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-637\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Earth Stewardship <em>was launched late in 2023<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Since its very beginning, ESA has been a driving force in publishing cutting-edge research in ecology and closely allied fields. <a href=\"https:\/\/esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/\">Our portfolio of journals<\/a> represents some of the most prestigious homes for papers on new science, important advances at the intersections of science, policy and society, and syntheses of prior work for new interpretation.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, our journals published <strong>896 new papers<\/strong>; among all articles published over our journals\u2019 history, work in ESA journals was <strong>cited more than 8,300 times<\/strong>, with nearly <strong>6.1 million full online text views<\/strong>. Our staff generated <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/blog\/category\/press-releases\/external-press-release\/\">103 press releases<\/a> based on new articles, which led to <strong>400 story placements<\/strong> in major international media.<\/p>\n<p>New leaders were recruited to steer our journals in 2023. We were pleased to announce that <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/blog\/2023\/11\/15\/esa-announces-sunshine-van-bael-as-the-new-editor-in-chief-of-ecosphere\/\">Sunshine Van Bael had assumed the EIC role at <em>Ecosphere<\/em>,<\/a> and that <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/blog\/2023\/10\/16\/esa-welcomes-scott-collins-as-editor-in-chief-of-frontiers-in-ecology-and-the-environment\/\">Scott Collins would serve as the new EIC of <\/a><em>Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment.<\/em> And we were especially excited to launch our latest journal\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/journal\/28353617\"><em>Earth Stewardship<\/em><\/a>. <strong>Elisabeth Huber-Sannwald<\/strong> was <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/blog\/2023\/08\/04\/elisabeth-huber-sannwald-named-founding-editor-in-chief-of-new-esa-journal-earth-stewardship\/\">announced as inaugural EIC<\/a> during the Annual Meeting in Portland, and began accepting articles at the turn of the year. We look forward to ongoing excellence in our portfolio!<\/p>\n<p>On the education front, we hosted <strong>three faculty mentoring sessions<\/strong>\u2014with 39 participants\u2014and published 13 teaching resources in our education journal, <a href=\"https:\/\/tiee.esa.org\/\"><em>Teaching Issues and Experiments in Ecology<\/em><\/a>. This coincided with ongoing resource development and implementation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/4dee\/\">Four Dimensional Ecology Education (4DEE)<\/a> framework. In addition to the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/programs\/ecology-education\/reefs\/\">Resources for Ecology Education \u2013 Fair and Share (REEFS) workshop<\/a>, the Annual Meeting also included four separate events on 4DEE. Resources like these and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ecoed.esa.org\/\">EcoEd Digital Library<\/a> place ESA at the forefront of quality ecology education now, with a very bright future!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since its very beginning, ESA has been a driving force in publishing cutting-edge research in ecology and closely allied fields.
