We took big steps forward in 2023 as we built on the last several years of enhanced career support for ecologists.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/certification\">certification program<\/a> continued to grow, with <strong>154 newly certified ecologists<\/strong> across all career levels, including <strong>all-time high numbers of new Ecologist in Training and Associate Ecologist awardees<\/strong>. We also welcomed several new <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/certification\/approved-providers\/\">approved CEU providers<\/a> to our list, which includes training in such far-ranging skills as scientific leadership, wildlife capture, science communication, conservation standards, statistics and modeling, and on and on.<\/p>\n<p>To bolster the continuing education of our certified ecologists and to enhance the value of Society membership, we piloted a new <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/career-development\/professional-development-from-esa\/\">professional development program<\/a>. Our first four events\u2014featuring a course on humor in scientific presentations, an introductory webinar on R and two career guidance workshops\u2014drew<strong> 291 participants<\/strong>. It was only a taste of what was to come, but that\u2019s a story for 2024!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_635\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-635\" class=\"wp-image-635 size-medium-300 img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/06\/career-central-networking_600-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/06\/career-central-networking_600-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/esa.org\/2023\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/06\/career-central-networking_600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-635\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Early career ecologists network at a Career Central event<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>At the Annual Meeting, <strong>Career Central<\/strong> was a raging success. In just three days, <strong>several hundred attendees visited 22 sessions<\/strong> on career navigation, plus speed networking with the EICs and daily blocks for resume reviews and mock interviews, all bolstered by <strong>almost 150 members<\/strong> who volunteered their time and expertise.<\/p>\n<p>We also continued our programmatic support for science educators by serving as one of the hosts of the <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ldc\">8<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px\">th<\/span>\u00a0Life Discovery Conference \u2013 Doing Science Biology Education Conference<\/a> at Florida A&amp;M University. Over three days, <strong>71 attendees<\/strong> explored a program rich in best practices and lesson ideas (appropriately themed around how pandemics impact education!), with resources published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/lifediscoveryed.org\/\">LifeDiscoveryEd Digital Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a professional organization for ecologists, it\u2019s core to ESA\u2019s mission to support the professional development of its members and community.
