I\u2019ve put together a guide to places and things I love. In addition to the wonderful ecology available, I hope you take time to explore the city of Baltimore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-04822461 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);flex-basis:50%\">\n<p class=\"has-base-color has-primary-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-5fdadece7ca89415e1c0584e87614664 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\">First some background <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is crime in any city and the worst crime in Baltimore is localized and not in most places you will likely be during the conference (I personally feel very safe in my day-to-day life, and bus and bike around the city a lot), but I\u2019ve included the safety advice I\u2019d give to anyone visiting when warranted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d6176.923477258314!2d-76.61102455!3d39.27777784999999!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x89c80365ef20b29b%3A0x3d6437ae63ddc622!2sFederal%20Hill%2C%20Baltimore%2C%20MD!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1753464166150!5m2!1sen!2sus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"getting-around\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">Getting Around<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, to get around you can use a <a href=\"https:\/\/transportation.baltimorecity.gov\/bike-baltimore\/dockless-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scooter or bike share<\/a> (please wear a helmet), walk, take a bus, or use a ride share. For buses, the circulators are free buses (and each route is named color, e.g. Purple Route), and all other city buses cost $2 per ride (and each route is either named a color e.g. CityLink Silver or a number e.g. LocalLink 94). You can get the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mta.maryland.gov\/charmpass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CharmPass app<\/a> to pay for rides and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mta.maryland.gov\/transit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transit app<\/a> has bus routes and timing. I\u2019ve put in distances from the convention center and list bus routes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, a lot of suggestions are around two neighborhoods, Federal Hill and Fells Point. Here is a brief map for you to orient yourself (made with AI, so\u2026.). And there is so much more to Baltimore than I mention here, enjoy!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"food-and-drink\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">Food and Drink&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breakfast and Coffee within a 15-minute walk of the Convention Center&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coffee and food to-go (that isn\u2019t Starbucks)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sam\u2019s Bagels \u2013 In Federal Hill on Light St.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ceremony Coffee \u2013 in Cross St. Market&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Morning Mugs \u2013 closest to the convention center&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sit down breakfast<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Miss Shirley\u2019s \u2013 On Pratt St.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blue Moon Too \u2013 In Federal Hill on Light St.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spoons \u2013 In Federal Hill near Cross St. Market.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For lunch (or dinner) in addition to the options, you can see right outside the convention center\u2026consider visiting one of our food halls, Baltimore has several, and two are walking distance.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check out the recently renovated <a href=\"https:\/\/lexingtonmarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lexington Market<\/a> (0.6 miles, ~15 min walk from the convention center, this walk might be better during daylight hours, you can also take the 94 bus)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>or <a href=\"https:\/\/crossstmarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cross St. Market<\/a> (0.6 miles, ~ 15 min talk in the other direction, I feel safe walking around Fed Hill most hours. It is probably best to take a ride there, but you can take the tram (not recommended too late at night).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shoyousushi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shoyu Shushi<\/a> is down in Federal Hill and very yummy. (0.9 miles, ~20 minute talk or take the 94 bus, Silver bus, or Cherry circulator bus)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodberrykitchen.com\/tavern\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tavern at Woodbury Kitchen<\/a> is good food, but they might give you a story about where the chickens were raised. This is near La Cuchara, and again, best to take a ride, or the tram (but not too late at night).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dutchcouragebar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dutch Courage<\/a> is known for their gin collection and cocktails and has great food (2.2 miles, can take the Silver or Purple Circulator bus).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"more-dinner\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">More Dinner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hello, you\u2019re in Baltimore, and clearly, you need to eat some crabs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The closest and best option is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.locustpointsteamers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Locust Point Steamers<\/a> (1.6 miles, ~40 minute walk, 94 bus or take a ride there)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a sit-down restaurant with good food but less $$:&nbsp;There are two more food halls that are worth checking out with lots of food options:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/broadwaymarketbaltimore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Broadway Market<\/a> over in Fells Point (1.3 miles, take the Orange Circulator)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/r.housebaltimore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R house<\/a> market up in Remington (2.6 miles, take the 94 bus or Purple Circulator).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can also walk to Federal Hill or Fells Points and there are many places in both neighborhoods. Another neighborhood to go to for dinner is Hampden, W36th street (AKA the Avenue) has many options (take the 94 bus up to Hampden from the convention center).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/ekibenbaltimore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ekiben<\/a>, is not sit down, but serves amazing Asian fusion food with three locations around Baltimore (South Baltimore \u2013 south of Federal Hill, Fells Point and Hampden).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is 5 o\u2019clock somewhere and it is time for a drink:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For a cool speakeasy vibe go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/wcharlan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">W.C. Harlan<\/a> (they also have an extensive mocktail list). After drinks walk across the street to <a href=\"https:\/\/barclavel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Clavel<\/a> for great Mexican food (2.2 miles, can take 94 bus).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For a dive bar check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mums.bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mums<\/a> on Hanover (0.6 miles) or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/theidlehourbaltimore\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Idle Hour<\/a> (1 mile, Silver, 94 or Cherry circulator) on Fort Ave.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Federal Hill cross street between Light and Charles St (~0.6 miles). You can always start at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossbarbaltimore.com\/\">Crossbar<\/a> a Beer Garden with games. There are more bars on Charles St. too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fells Point has a lot of bars\/restaurants too (~1.3 miles, take a ride or Orange Circulator) where you could start at <a href=\"https:\/\/maxs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Max\u2019s tap house<\/a> where they have over 100 beers on tap.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"breweries-galore\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">Breweries Galore<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baltimore is home to several breweries that also serve food:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-tertiary-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30)\">We\u2019re hosting&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/baltimore2025\/2025-science-on-tap\/\">Science On Tap<\/a>&nbsp;at Checkerspot Brewing on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/checkerspotbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Checkerspot Brewing Company<\/a> has more limited food options and is the venue for <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/baltimore2025\/2025-science-on-tap\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2513\">Science On Tap<\/a> (1 mile, 73 bus, I am not sure how safe I\u2019d feel walking here at night, I\u2019d use a ride share)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guilfordhall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guilford Hall Brewery<\/a> has an extensive food menu (1.7 miles, ride share or Purple circulator, or Silver bus).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/unioncraftbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Union Craft Brewing<\/a> serves traditional bar food (~5 miles, and no good public transportation options, ride share is the best option)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/peabodyheightsbrewery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peabody Heights Brewery<\/a> has a food truck that serves Korean fusion food. (~3 miles, you can take the Red line or Purple circulator)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ice-cream\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">Ice Cream<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are several walkable ice cream places in Federal Hill (I can attest all are good, but Moo Moo Cows is my favorite).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bmore Licks&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Moo Moo Cows&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taharka Brothers (in Cross st. This museum is right on next to Johns Hopkins Campus and you can explore the Charles Village neighborhood.
