Good week for Reps. Smith
Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, was appointed to three subcommittees
of the new Select Committee on Homeland Security, including the
Cybersecurity, Science and R&D panel last week. Smith, who represents
San Antonio, is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee's Courts,
Internet and Intellectual Property subcommittee.
Meanwhile, Rep. Nick Smith R-Mich., was honored by two Washington DC-based groups last week for his championing of efforts on behalf of the agricultural and biological science communities.
The Biological and Ecological Sciences Coalition (BESC) and the Coalition on Funding Agricultural Research Missions (CoFARM) both praised Smith, who chairs the House Science subcommittee on research.
"We would like to thank Chairman Smith for his unwavering support of the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Agriculture," Ann Bartuska said April 3.
BESC focuses on the vitality of biological science research across all agencies, while CoFARM seeks to raise awareness and increase support for the agricultural research community.
