Canada Chapter Registration Grants for the ESA 2025 Annual Meeting<\/b><\/p>\n

The Canada Chapter of the Ecological Society of America will offer <\/span>four registration grants<\/span> to support attendance at ESA 2025 in Baltimore, Maryland. We encourage you to share this information with your lab members and colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each grant will be valued at $200 USD, with a discount code entered at the time of registration payment<\/b>. The grants are not intended to cover the full costs of registration or attendance but instead, allow us to offer modest support to several individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Eligibility requirements @ the time of application:<\/span>\n
      \n
    1. You must be an active (dues paid up) member of the Canadian Chapter of ESA.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. You must attend the 2025 ESA meeting IN-PERSON, in Baltimore, Maryland.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. You must give an oral presentation at an ESA-scheduled session.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Students, PDFs, and all ecological researchers are encouraged to apply for these grants. However, to be eligible, you must not have access to alternative financial support to attend a research conference, such as Discovery Grants, Employer Grants\/Funds, travel funds associated with a Fellowship, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    5. Application<\/span>\n

      1. Complete and submit the questionnaire.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. The application deadline is 5 pm EST on Friday, May 30th<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      3. Adjudication<\/span>\n

        1. We will randomly select the grant recipients if we receive more applications than there are available funds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        2. A request. If you are a PI and currently have sufficient funds to cover these costs for your lab members, please discourage them from applying. This is not a \u2018competition-based\u2019 award; thus, it should not have value on a CV. Instead, we intend to help increase attendance at ESA by those who either would not be able to attend or would face financial hardship.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  2023-10-30<\/p>\n

                  Needs-Based Registration<\/span> Grants<\/span> for ESA<\/span> Memberships<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

                  We are pleased to offer a number of needs-based registration<\/span> grants<\/span> to cover up to $140 USD towards ESA<\/span> memberships for 2024! We will help to support anyone who wants to join our Chapter and<\/span>\u00a0will offer these awards on a first-come basis, until available funds are exhausted. It is unclear how many awards will be given, as there are various rates for different membership options. Please note that these awards will only go toward the core one-year ESA<\/span> membership and the included Chapter<\/span>\/Section membership, and not towards add-ons that members may select (e.g. additional chapters\/sections, donations, etc).<\/p>\n

                  To be eligible for consideration, applicants must:<\/p>\n

                  1. \n

                    Renew or sign up for 2024 memberships including continued membership in the Canada<\/span> Chapter<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                  2. \n

                    Complete this form<\/a> except the payment portion and return the form with a separate statement acknowledging financial need to esacanadachapter@gmail.com<\/a>. Please note that we do not need any information about the type or cause of financial need, just the presence of a need. This will help us ensure these awards go toward those who would most benefit.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                  3. Applications must be received by November 30, 2023<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    Please note: due to accounting constraints, these memberships will be processed at the end of 2023\/beginning of 2024, so your renewed membership will not be visible until early 2024.<\/p>\n

                    Canada Chapter Registration Grants for the ESA 2023 Annual Meeting<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

                    Due to a change in budgeting at ESA, we as a chapter find ourselves in a one-off position to offer support for some people attending the ESA meeting in-person in Portland. We encourage you to share this information with your lab members and colleagues.<\/p>\n

                      Student registration grants. We anticipate offering up to six registration grants for students (undergraduate and graduate). The grants will cover full student-member registration costs (approx $230 USD) but not associated travel costs.<\/p>\n

                          You must be an active (dues paid up) member of the Canadian Chapter of ESA.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

In the modern research landscape, we recognize that many individuals actively engaged in ecological research are neither lab PIs with research grants nor students. Here, we are trying to facilitate conference lab attendance by this diverse set of researchers by offering up to four additional registration grants (approximately $500 USD each).<\/p>\n

                                      3. Increasing representation of international science at ESA.<\/p>\n

                                      Though our chapter has substantial funds for this one year, most other chapters and sections do not. This coincides with a broad need for travel support from many ESA members. Portland is very expensive relative to many other locations, and consequence is that several invited symposium\/organized sessions speakers from outside of North America cannot afford to attend the conference. We have decided to use a small amount of the chapter funds (up to 2 registration grants) to specifically facilitate the presentation of research by other international researchers in ESA. We believe this is consistent with the overall goals of this Chapter and also can help enhance a collaborative culture among Chapters and Sections going forward. However, we welcome feedback from members.<\/p>\n
