{"id":4134,"date":"2020-07-20T18:09:56","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T00:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esa.org\/communication-engagement\/?page_id=4124"},"modified":"2021-03-12T05:06:26","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T05:06:26","slug":"esa-wide","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/esa.org\/communication-engagement\/resources\/esa-wide\/","title":{"rendered":"ESA-wide C&amp;E"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the C&amp;E Section, there are numerous official groups within ESA who actively work on community engagement and\/or support ESA members\u2019 building their capacity to do community engagement well.<\/p>\n<p>They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sections: <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/blackecologists\/\">Black Ecologists<\/a>, Communication &amp; Engagement (that\u2019s us!), <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/enjustice\/\">Environmental Justice<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/human-ecology\/\">Human Ecology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/inclusive-ecology\/\">Inclusive Ecology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/latinamerican\/\">Latin American Chapter<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/policy\/\">Policy<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/tek\/\">Traditional Ecological Knowledge<\/a>,\u00a0and numerous discipline-specific sections.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/societyforhumanecology.org\/heesa\/#:~:text=Titled%20The%20Human%20Dimensions%20Collaborative,unjust%20distribution%20of%20their%20burdens.\">Human Dimensions Collaborative<\/a> (est. 2019)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Engagement at Annual Meetings Subcommittee (Chair, Sarah Anderson); part of Meetings Committee<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/about\/governance\/committees\/cde\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ESA Committee on Diversity &amp; Education<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ESA Public Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/newsroom\/\">Office<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/about\/governance\/committees\/public-affairs-committee\/\">Committee<\/a>. <\/span>For a history of an aspect of this work, see Nadine Lymn\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/bes2.1226\">ESA \u2018s Evolution in Public Policy and Media Outreach from 1993 to 2013<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Engage ESA project led by Melissa Kenny and Frank Davis (2018), in <\/span>collaboration with several Sections, led to this 2020 report: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/bes2.1773\">Increasing the Impact of Public Engagement Within and Beyond the Ecological Society of America<\/a>\u201c. Co-authors include two past-chairs of the C&amp;E Section and several section members.<\/li>\n<li>The launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/communication-engagement\/resources\/communicating-science\/\">Communicating Science section<\/a> in <em>The Bulletin of the Ecological Society<\/em>, led and edited by a C&amp;E Section past-chair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A range of one-off community engagement efforts take place at annual meetings. We\u2019ve listed a few on-going or particularly impactful efforts that can serve as discussion points. They are not the only possibilities, nor are they the explicit way that members are expected to do community engagement at annual meetings.
