Below is a brief update to help you get ready:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>OUTSTANDING LINE-UP<\/strong>: This year\u2019s Sci Comm Section-sponsored sessions include a <a href=\"https:\/\/eco.confex.com\/eco\/2016\/webprogram\/Session11894.html\">Mentoring and Project Review Workshop<\/a> and a high-energy <a href=\"https:\/\/eco.confex.com\/eco\/2016\/webprogram\/Session11886.html\">Up Goer Five-inspired Ignite session<\/a>, both on Tuesday, August 9. Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/communication-engagement\/esa2016-sciccomm\/\">the blog for a full-listing of sci comm events<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY<\/strong>: Section members interested in having their work reviewed\u00a0or\u00a0volunteering their expertise as a reviewer during the Tuesday workshop should get in touch with workshop organizer Clarisse Hart (<a href=\"mailto:hart3@fas.harvard.edu\">hart3@fas.harvard.edu<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SPREAD THE WORD #ESASCICOMM<\/strong>: The popular <a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/category\/esa-annual-meeting\/\">#sketchyourscience activity<\/a>\u00a0is making a comeback at #ESA2016. We need your help\u00a0to bring this activity to Ft. Lauderdale and to make sure SciComm is on ecologists\u2019 minds throughout the week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>POP BY THE BOOTH<\/strong>: Besides a sketching station, our booth in the Exhibit Hall will have a SciComm job board, list of SciComm events at ESA, a SciComm book raffle, info about our mixer &amp; business meeting, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>VOLUNTEERS NEEDED<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1GmA_bdrwBcHGODxY7w4Ez-sFVWfnD-knO0wxAar0b8Q\/edit?usp=sharing\">Sign up for a shift at the Sci Comm Section Booth<\/a>(we\u2019re partnering with our friends in the Science Policy Section). It\u2019s a great way to meet other science communicators and share your enthusiasm for all things #ESASciComm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BUSINESS MEETING AND MIXER<\/strong>: Wednesday, August 10, 2016: 6:30 \u2013 8p in FLCC 318 followed by informal social at a location TBD. Stay tuned to #ESASciComm for more info.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NOMINATE YOURSELF<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/iW2BxduVSU3iT9Lp1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Officer nominations are now open<\/a>* and we\u2019ll hold elections in October. If you are interested in running for section chair, chair-elect or secretary, please review\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/esacommsection\/\">the section by-laws<\/a> for information about officer duties and feel free to email me or catch me at the meeting with any questions you have.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PAY YOUR DUES<\/strong>: 2016 marked the first year that the Sci Comm Section could collect membership dues. Thanks to so many of you who officially signed up. If you wish to continue receiving emails and would like to participate in the upcoming election, join the official roster by checking the Sci Comm Section box when you pay your ESA membership dues!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ESA SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES<\/strong>: Please do familiarize yourself with <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ftlauderdale\/social-media\/\">ESA\u2019s Social Media Guidelines<\/a>. \u00a0Live tweets (#ESA2016) are welcome, but remember no photographs, video, or audio recording during scientific sessions (talks and posters).
