It\u2019s as simple as signing up for <a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/esa2015-workshop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Workshop 10854: Communicating Science Vividly<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/esa2015-workshop\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-652 img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/communication-engagement-preprod\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/86\/2015\/07\/communicating-science-vividly_workshop-banner_v1.jpg?w=648\" alt=\"Communicating science vividly_workshop banner_v1\" width=\"648\" height=\"196\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/esablog\/ecology-and-society\/whats-the-future-of-ecologist-communicators\/\">the rallying call at the 2013 Annual Meeting<\/a>\u00a0to better connect our science to society, and the overwhelming enthusiasm for our <a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/about\/2014-workshop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2014 SciComm workshop<\/a> and petition to <a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/esacommsection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launch an ESA SciComm Section<\/a>\u00a0(done!), we\u2019ve organized<a href=\"https:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/esa2015-workshop\/\"> another hands-on workshop<\/a> for attendees of this year\u2019s Annual Meeting.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As we celebrate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/history\/esa-2015-centennial\/\">ESA\u2019s Centennial<\/a>, this workshop moves the conversation forward from talking about <i>why<\/i> communicating our science is important to improving <i>how<\/i> we actually do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our workshop targets ecologists, educators, and communicators \u2013 those looking to expand their toolbox, and those curious to test the waters of science communication for the first time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>We\u2019re not looking for journalistic masterpieces, and everyone is welcome.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>In this workshop, \u2018boundary-spanning\u2019 science communicators with expertise in visual communication and creative nonfiction writing will guide participants through a variety of hands-on exercises to build their skills in conveying ecological concepts to broad audiences.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Activities will include visual design and composition, drawing, photography best practices, systems mapping, color theory, messaging, and scene\/character development.\u00a0 By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify a clear storyline through their own scientific work. Aimed at a specified target audience, this storyline and accompanying visuals will enable participants to share their work in a comprehensible and compelling way.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re empowering ecologists to better communicate the stories of our science (including stories about the <i>people<\/i> doing the science) in creative, compelling and innovative ways. We will give you the tools \u2013 and confidence \u2013 to engage, communicate, and create!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So what are you waiting for?
