So please come help us enjoy them!<\/div>\n<div><strong>2)<\/strong> PLOS is starting a new forum for blogging about ecology, and they want early career contributors!<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We are hosting a special session at the annual ESA meeting titled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/eco.confex.com\/eco\/2015\/webprogram\/Session10803.html\">Concerns and Challenges in Personal and Professional Development for Early Career Ecologists<\/a>\u201c.\u00a0 We have six invited presenters who will be speaking on the topics of <a href=\"http:\/\/sarascanga.weebly.com\/uploads\/3\/1\/7\/8\/31782617\/supplemental_scanga_and_fierke_2008.pdf\">work-family balance<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Thomas_Gorman\/publication\/240777827_Partner_PhDs_dual_careers_in_grad_school_and_beyond\/links\/00463521276ea070d8000000.pdf\">dual careers<\/a>, strategies for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esajournals.org\/doi\/full\/10.1890\/0012-9623%282008%2989%5B193%3AAYSGTG%5D2.0.CO%3B2\">gaining employment<\/a>, strategies for<a href=\"http:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/250078132_Ecology_Teaching_Tips_for_First-year_Professors\"> first-year teaching<\/a>, methods for generating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esajournals.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1890\/1540-9295%282007%295%5B555%3APOITAO%5D2.0.CO%3B2\">novel research questions<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esajournals.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1890\/120370\">measures of success <\/a>for early career ecologists. Each presentation will be about 10 minutes, with ample time for discussion after the talks. Discussion will be focused on identifying strategies for early career ecologists to face these challenges and on ways for ESA and the greater scientific community to aid in the personal\/professional development of early career ecologists during transitional career stages.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Our speakers have all recently published on early career topics in ESA journals:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/usm.maine.edu\/environmental-science\/karen-wilson\">Karen A. Wilson<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/sarascanga.weebly.com\/\">Sara E. Scanga<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/scholar.google.com\/citations?user=mt2zrmwAAAAJ&amp;hl=en\">Jessica A. Homyack <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/downwithtime.wordpress.com\/\">Simon J Goring <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/anitamorzillo.weebly.com\/\">Anita T. Morzillo<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtu.edu\/forest\/about\/faculty\/bump\/\">Joseph K. Bump <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>The special session is scheduled for <strong><span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1161027468\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Wednesday, August 12<\/span><\/span>, from <span class=\"aBn\" data-term=\"goog_1161027469\"><span class=\"aQJ\">8:00pm \u2013 10:00pm in 302 Baltimore Convention Center<\/span><\/span><\/strong>,and is sponsored by the Public Library of Science (PLOS), who will be providing refreshments for the session. So please put it on your ESA Schedule App and consider sticking around late on Wednesday to join us!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Are you interested in scientific communication, blogging or social media?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In support of our collaboration with PLOS, they are also providing opportunities for Early Career Ecologist members to blog on their new <a href=\"https:\/\/ecologyfieldreports.plos.org\/\">PLoS Ecology Community<\/a> on Medium (Note: It\u2019s for the whole \u201cEcology Community\u201d, not just for community ecologists!). Whether you have extensive experience are just want a way to get started, this is a great opportunity to get involved via a professional platform affiliated with PLOS. They are welcoming contributors to provide coverage of ESA talks and events, interview prominent biologists (they have already lined a few of these up for you!), and <a href=\"https:\/\/ecologyfieldreports.plos.org\/13-guidelines-for-writing-plos-field-reports-posts-d12fccb7cfb9\">cover recent ecology<\/a> publications or concepts throughout the year.
