The work and expertise of ecologists can contribute to society\u2019s ability to identify and address these challenges. \u00a0Increasingly, in addition to their research and educational pursuits, ecologists are choosing to become involved in policy at the local, state, regional, national and international levels.\u201d \u00a0<b><i>From <\/i><\/b>ESA\u2019s <i>An Ecologist\u2019s Guidebook to Policy Engagement<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/public-policy\/get-involved\/policy-training\/\" class=\"btn btn-primary\">Get Involved with Policy Training and Engagement<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><small>EJ Section on the relationship of ecology, policy and justice<\/small><\/h2>\n<p> Recognizing that environmental impacts deferentially impact communities, the EJ Section advocates research and education on local to global scales that incorporates environmental justice concerns into scientific research to address past, current and future environmental issues. \u00a0The Section is particularly interested in the development of ecological science that can be used for the development and implementation of effective, ethical, and fair public policies.<\/p>\n<h2>EJ Section on the role of education<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0Because the results of science are often not well understood by the general public,the EJ Section advocates and supports the development of effective outreach and communication. \u00a0In particular, we encourage ecological education efforts that foster improved EJ policy research, better methodology in relationship-based outreach, and more effective communication of ecological science.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ESA on the importance and use of policy \u201cSociety faces enormous and complex challenges: food security and energy demands, degraded ecosystems, dwindling natural resources and climate change.
