{"id":479,"date":"2013-07-22T15:26:37","date_gmt":"2013-07-22T15:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esa.org\/enjustice2\/?p=479"},"modified":"2013-07-22T15:26:37","modified_gmt":"2013-07-22T15:26:37","slug":"esa-mn-2013-workshop-fostering-community-ecologist-partnerships-for-environmental-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esa.org\/enjustice\/2013\/07\/22\/esa-mn-2013-workshop-fostering-community-ecologist-partnerships-for-environmental-justice\/","title":{"rendered":"ESA MN 2013 workshop: Fostering Community-Ecologist Partnerships for Environmental Justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>\u201cFostering Community-Ecologist Partnerships for Environmental Justice\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Friday, August 9\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 12 \u2013 5 pm (lunch available at 11:30 am)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uroc.umn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center<\/a>, 2001 Plymouth Ave. North, Minneapolis, MN<br>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><strong>Do you work with a community-based organization focusing on environmental justice issues in the Minneapolis, MN area?\u00a0 Would you like to share the story of one of your projects, learn from other organizations doing similar work, and strengthen partnerships with ecologists?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><strong> If so, please <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/enjustice2\/contact\/\">contact us<\/a> to learn more about participating in this workshop on \u201c<i>Fostering Community-Ecologist Partnerships for Environmental Justice<\/i>,\u201d to be held on Friday, August 9 from 12-5 pm in Minneapolis, MN.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">One of the goals of the Environmental Justice Section of the Ecological Society of America is to <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/enjustice2\/projects\/community-ecologist-partnerships\/\">promote partnerships between community organizations and ecologists<\/a> that contribute to healthy, sustainable communities.\u00a0 In 2013, we received a planning grant from the ESA Governing Board to support a workshop, \u201c<i>Fostering Community-Ecologist Partnerships for Environmental Justice<\/i>\u201d following ESA\u2019s 2013 Annual Meeting in Minneapolis.\u00a0 This workshop<b> <\/b>will engage EJ organizations and ESA members in sharing, learning from, and supporting community-led EJ work that includes research and education partnerships with ecologists.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Workshop Goals: <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>Share and learn from stories of community-ecologist partnerships<\/i><\/b><b>:<\/b> We will provide a forum for EJ organizations to share stories of specific projects involving community-based ecological research. \u00a0From these, we will identify lessons and further work to enhance community-ecologist partnerships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>Lay the foundation for a community of practice (CoP):<\/i><\/b> We will explore the potential for an ongoing CoP dedicated to supporting and enhancing community-ecologist partnerships for EJ. \u00a0We will consider:\n<ul>\n<li>Structures and technologies for ongoing communication<\/li>\n<li>Potential functions and activities of a CoP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>Outline resources we could develop to provide guidance to community organizations and ecologists seeking to collaborate.<\/i><\/b> \u00a0We will consider:\n<ul>\n<li>A guidebook\/summary of best practices<\/li>\n<li>A collection of multimedia practice stories<\/li>\n<li>An annotated guide to resources on community-ecologist partnerships and participatory research in general.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Workshop Approach &amp;
