ESA Communicating Science Workshop<\/h1>\n

Overview<\/h3>\n

The ESA Communicating Science workshop is designed to address the needs of ecologists to communicate scientific information in a variety of public and professional interactions. This workshop will build participants confidence and skill set for public engagement with media, Congress, and other audiences. It also provides a professional development opportunity to develop broader impact skills.<\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Participants receive these benefits:<\/h3>\n

Up to a $200.00 travel award ($200.00 overnight award or a $100.00 commuter award)
\nCertificate of completion
\nInvitation to participate in the inaugural Communicating Science alumni network<\/p>\n

Format<\/h3>\n

This workshop provides the basics of science communication and public engagement by using multiple workshop segments with training presentations followed by small group work and practice.<\/p>\n

Participants will learn:<\/h3>\n

Communication Basics
\nHow to interact with Congress
\nHow to communicate with media
\nHow to use social media to complement research
\nUpon completion, participants will be able to:<\/p>\n

Describe their science to a non-technical audience
\nIdentify a few highlights of their science to share
\nTailor their message for various audiences
\nUse plain language to communicate science
\nFunding<\/p>\n

The ESA Communicating Science workshop funding is provided by Wiley Publications and distributed by the ESA Governing Board. We are pleased to offer this workshop at no cost to participants and additionally provide travel awards for members.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/h3>\n

Space is limited, and participants must be able to attend the entire training. Participants must be an ESA memberr. Upon completion of the workshop, participants are asked to visit their Member of Congress in their state or district.<\/p>\n
