Now, both the House and Senate will meet in conference to work out differences in the bills and draft a final version. Once this is done, the House and Senate will vote again on the final legislation. While the Senate bill did not seek to tax tuition waivers, the House version of the bill, The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1), would repeal Sec. 117 (d)(5), which provides graduate student teaching and research assistants with a tax exemption for tuition waivers.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><br>\nWe ask you to contact your Members of Congress today and urge them to keep the tax exemption for tuition waivers.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Find your Senator by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/senators\/contact\/\">selecting your state<\/a>, and your Representative by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/representatives\/find-your-representative\">entering your zip code<\/a>\u00a0and follow instructions on their website on how to contact them.
