{"id":1601,"date":"2009-08-07T15:55:52","date_gmt":"2009-08-07T19:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esa.org\/esablog\/?p=1601"},"modified":"2009-08-07T15:55:52","modified_gmt":"2009-08-07T19:55:52","slug":"1601","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esa.org\/esablog\/2009\/08\/07\/1601\/","title":{"rendered":"Farewell, ESA Meeting 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">As ESA\u2019s Annual Meeting drew to a close today and the city of Albuquerque breathed a sigh of relief \u2014 now there might be places for locals to sit in a restaurant! \u2014 the echoes of the meeting were just beginning.\u00a0 Scientific meetings are a place to bring together scientists from myriad subfields: in the case of ecology, from biogeochemistry to microbial ecology to agroforestry to physiological ecology\u2026and the list goes on. When they all get together, magic often happens. This meeting was no exception, with large-scale issues such as invasive species, climate change and even \u2014 here\u2019s a new one \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/news\/blog\/2009\/08\/esa_2009_war_and_the_ordinary.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">warfare ecology<\/a> on the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Ecologists aren\u2019t the only ones who think their work is important, either.\u00a0 Reports have emerged from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/2009\/070809\/full\/news.2009.810.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nature magazine<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/abqnews\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=blogcategory&amp;id=18&amp;Itemid=31\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article.cfm?id=tree-plantations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scientific American<\/a> and others.\u00a0 (The Nature folks also <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nature.com\/news\/blog\/conference_reports\/ecological_society_of_america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blogged like crazy<\/a> about the meeting.)\u00a0 Watch for other stories that will come out within the next week in places like Land Letter and National Geographic News.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Either way you slice it, communication is key.\u00a0 Ecologists communicating with each other = good.
