The disruption to normal campus life adds fear, stress and enormous strain as colleges try to operate safely during the pandemic. It is especially egregious during Black History month when we reflect on the sacrifices and achievements made toward equality, while also working to overcome the injustices and racism that still exist in our culture today. The ESA stands in solidarity with HBCUs and shares deep concern for all on the campuses, especially for faculty and students who are part of the SEEDS and EcologyPlus programs and for all our Black and African American ecological community. Together we stand strong with the important work being carried out at these institutions.

Dennis Ojima

Sharon Collinge

Kathleen Weathers

Catherine O’Riordan

President, ESA

President-Elect, ESA

Past-President, ESA

Executive Director, ESA

In the strongest possible terms, the Ecological Society of America condemns the recent bomb threats aimed at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
