{"id":20713,"date":"2025-05-15T16:56:02","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T16:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esa.org\/esablog\/?p=20713"},"modified":"2025-05-27T14:27:49","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T14:27:49","slug":"esa-action-alert-contact-the-house-of-representatives-to-advocate-to-fund-science-agencies-and-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esa.org\/esablog\/2025\/05\/15\/esa-action-alert-contact-the-house-of-representatives-to-advocate-to-fund-science-agencies-and-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"ESA Action Alert: Contact the House of Representatives to advocate to fund science agencies and programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May 15, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dear ESA Member:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Today by 5pm, call your Congressperson in the House of Representatives or send a short email asking them to request robust funding for federal science agencies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why today by 5pm?<\/strong> Each Congressperson submits a formal request due Friday, May 16, to the House Appropriations Committee to request funding amounts for agencies and programs important to them, their constituents (you) and their district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ESA urges you to WRITE a short message or CALL their DC Capitol Hill office with a short request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dial the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Representative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/\">Contact your federal Congressional delegation<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:23px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Examples of Call or Email Scripts:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am a constituent and ask that Representative [NAME] request $9.9 billion in the FY26 federal budget for the National Science Foundation. My research at the University [NAME] is directly funded by NSF and we employ [X] students with those funds, allowing these students to pursue science degrees for future jobs in STEM. Thank you for including NSF in the Congressperson\u2019s request to the House Appropriations Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am a constituent and ask that Representative [NAME] request full FY 26 funding for the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area at FY 25 funding levels. I am greatly concerned that the President\u2019s budget request would zero out this important program. Our District [INSERT the importance of EMA to the District or an issue the Congressperson cares about]. Thank you for including the USGS Ecosystems Mission area in the Congressperson\u2019s request to the House Appropriations Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/mission-areas\/ecosystems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area site<\/a> to identify interests and include them in the email or call.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am a constituent and ask that Representative [NAME] request full FY 26 funding for the EPA Office of Research and Development at FY 25 funding levels.
