If you\u2019re interested in the intersection of science and policy, you won\u2019t want to miss the exciting lineup of events focused on policymaking, communication and real-world impact. Several of these sessions are organized by ESA\u2019s Public Affairs staff and the Public Affairs Committee. They offer valuable opportunities to engage with policy professionals, sharpen your communication skills and explore pathways to get involved in environmental decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ESA Public Affairs Office\/Public Affairs Committee Events<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monday, August 11, 1:30 PM \u2013 3:00 PM: <a href=\"https:\/\/events.rdmobile.com\/Sessions\/Details\/2967242\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/events.rdmobile.com\/Sessions\/Details\/2967242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>How to Participate in Public Policy and Communicate with Congress<\/strong><\/a> (Workshop)<br>Science-based policy decisions are informed by effective communicators who engage in public policy at the federal, state, and local level. How the process works may seem overly complex, leading to the myth that citizens are powerless in the face of special interests and partisan politics\u2014but, nothing is farther from the truth. Attend this workshop to learn the ins and outs of working with Congress. This hands-on session will provide participants with an overview of virtual and in person national-level opportunities to participate in public policy, from weighing in on congressional legislation to advocating for federal funding for research. Other ESA members engage in policy and are keenly interested in how science policy is developed, working with the media, and public engagement to raise awareness of the science of ecology and advocating for sound environmental and science policy decisions. At this luncheon, US a panel of US congressional staff will discuss the ins and outs of navigating the current policy environment in the federal government, identifying opportunities to engage, and providing the inside scoop for working in the current policy atmosphere.
