The grand event of ESA\u2019s year is the annual meeting<\/a>, which affords an opportunity for ecologists to get together, to hear the latest from their colleagues, and to conduct society business.<\/p>\n

Over the years, the date has settled firmly into August (early meetings were in December), and this gathering of ecologists has grown so large that annual meetings are no longer held in conjunction with other organizations.<\/p>\n

ESA Annual Meetings Attendance, 1995-2019<\/p><\/div>\n

In its formative years, 1915-1946, ESA met with the American Association for the Advancement of Science; later meetings were held with the American Institute of Biological Sciences. The last joint meeting was in 2007, with the Society for Ecological Restoration.<\/p>\n

Recent ESA meetings draw thousands of members and have been held in cities across the US \u2013 and in Montreal in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
