Kelly<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Professor of Biology, University of Oklahoma<\/strong><\/span><br>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Director, Oklahoma Biological Survey<\/strong><\/span><br>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Associate Heritage Zoologist, Oklahoma Biological Survey<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Modern opportunities afforded by today\u2019s tracking technologies\u00a0urge us to rethink our approaches to Biology education. \u00a0Dr. Jeff Kelly will share his expertise on the tools of data science being used to understand animal response in complex changing environments over large spatial extents. He will also share his perspectives on\u00a0the rapid changes in the data sciences, their multi-disciplinary demands and their implications for education.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ldc\/2017program\/\"><em>View the Conference Schedule at a Glance here<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">Dr. Jeffrey Kelly<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>is the Director of the Oklahoma Biological Survey and a Professor of Biology at the University of Oklahoma. He received a BS in Wildlife Management from the University of Maine, an MS in Zoology from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Biology from Colorado State University. Jeff is the PI of an NSF Research Training (NRT) program in Aeroecology, which tests a new model of interdisciplinary graduate student training focused on understanding ecological pattern and process in the lower atmosphere.\u00a0 He teaches interdisciplinary graduate courses in the <em>Earth Observation Science for Society and Sustainability<\/em> (EOS<sup>3<\/sup>) graduate certificate program as part of the NRT as well as courses in Conservation Biology and Population Ecology.\u00a0 His current research focuses on avian migration systems and interdisciplinary studies of emerging human-wildlife conflicts driven by increased use of the lower atmosphere for telecommunication, energy production, transportation, and commerce.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #339966\"><a id=\"KP\"><\/a>Saturday October 21, 2017<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #339966\">Keynote Panel<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 36px;width: 672px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 326px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ldc-preprod\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2017\/06\/Brad-Goodner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4314 alignleft img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ldc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Brad-Goodner-280x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"169\"><\/a><b>Brad Goodner\u00a0<\/b>is Professor of Biology and Edward J. Smerek Endowed Chair in Mathematics, the Sciences, &amp; Technology at Hiram College. Over the last decade, he has worked with colleagues to provide undergraduate research opportunities in genomics and bioinformatics on a national scale (GENI-ACT).<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 340px\"><b>Wendy Gra<a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ldc-preprod\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2017\/06\/Wendy-Gram-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4316 alignleft img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ldc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Wendy-Gram-259x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"181\"><\/a>m\u00a0<\/b>leads development of educational resources to facilitate use of freely available NEON (National Ecological Observatory Network) data, including environmental data from 81 sites across the US. Anna will introduce the Biodiversity Literacy in Undergraduate Education (BLUE) Network.
