(5\/17\/2024)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Microbial Ecology Section is running a T-Shirt Design Contest! We welcome ANYONE to submit a design for a T-Shirt. The winner of the design contest will get $100 plus a shirt with their printed design. The chosen design should appeal to microbial ecologists, use only two colors (plus whatever t-shirt color you choose) and be in a vector format. <strong>The deadline for submissions is June 30.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information, and to enter the contest,<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScPKDEjjoyAGBBBXd4j6kAttuNu-4dlBNP9FJBIe4WU1pIbUw\/viewform\"> please check out this google form.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>Microbial Ecology Section travel awards (5\/17\/2024)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">This award is to support students to attend the ESA annual meeting. Funding is to assist with costs associated with registration, travel, and lodging.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">We are offering two travel awards of $500 USD each. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Eligibility requirements at the time of application:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">You must be an active (dues paid up) member of the ESA Microbial Ecology Section.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">You must attend the 2024 ESA meeting in-person in Long Beach.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">You must present a poster or talk at an ESA-scheduled session.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">You must be a full-time student, a postdoctoral scholar, a scientist working in industry, a post-bac student, or in-between positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">To apply please <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/Tt6LFcmPLdEJQBsg9\">fill in this form<\/a> by June 15. Awardees will be notified on June 20. We will annonunce winners publicly in the Business Meeting of the Microbial Ecology Section in the annual meeting in Long Beach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong>We are looking for new members to join the Microbial Ecology Section Leadership (05\/17\/2024)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re interested in serving, please get in touch with <a href=\"mailto:lily.khadempour@rutgers.edu\">Lily.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0 We have had to shuffle things around a bit this year so we will be electing TWO new officers, one to start as secretary, and the other to start as vice chair.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Secretary Responsibilities: The secretary will move into Vice-Chair and then Chair roles (3 year commitment). The secretary will work with the chair and vice chair to create member programming\/activities; review applications for student travel awards; arrange information booths at annual meetings; manage the section budget; plan business meetings and mixers; and in general, promote microbial ecology within and outside ESA.<\/p>\n<p>Both the secretary and vice chair will get a lot of guidance from the chair and former section chairs so that they are prepared to take the reigns when it is their turn to serve as chair. The Microbial Ecology section meets remotely about once a month to plan and execute all of the events. It\u2019s a great group of people to work with and get to know. Serving in the section leadership requires some work but it is a rewarding experience where you can build lasting connections and positively contribute to ESA.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microbial Ecology T-Shirt Design Contest!
