Calling all Ecologists, Naturalists, Biodiversity Scientists, and Observers!<\/h1>\n
Just how many organisms do you think you can find?<\/p>\n
The 2020 International Biodiversity Championship will be conducted across the globe.\u00a0 The competition will take place 3 August 2020 \u2013 6 August, 2020 under the auspices of the Natural History Section of the Ecological Society of America.\u00a0 The award ceremony will be at the Natural History Meeting Mixer 4:30 6 August, 2020.<\/p>\n
AIM AND SCOPE:<\/strong>\u00a0 This year we are highlighting how natural history and biodiversity can create communities across generational and geographical barriers, as virtual teams document the macroscopic diversity of life on backyard adventures and full scale expeditions. https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/projects\/international-biodiversity-championship-2020<\/a> .\u00a0<\/p>\n Teams<\/strong> will consist of 2-5 individuals with individual iNaturalist registrations, pre-registered as a \u201cProject\u201d through the competition registration form located here:\u00a0 https:\/\/forms.gle\/n8N1RcKiB5aHWFMP8<\/a> .\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n New this year are team composition requirements:\u00a0 Team members do not need to be in the same geographic location.<\/strong><\/p>\n Need help in figuring out how to register for iNaturalist?\u00a0 This YouTube link is helpful:\u00a0 https:\/\/youtu.be\/yJS63hdWGvs<\/a>, and the iNaturalist tutorials will walk you through everything if you are unfamiliar with the app.\u00a0 You can find the tutorials here:\u00a0 https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/pages\/video+tutorials<\/a> .<\/p>\n The Championship page and leaderboard<\/strong> will be found here:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/projects\/international-biodiversity-championship-2020<\/a> .\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Observations can be dated<\/strong> from 12:01 Midnight on 3 August (EDT) to 3:30 PM (EDT) 6 August.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Observations must be<\/strong> entered into iNaturalist, and registered as either \u201cResearch Grade\u201d or \u201cNeeds ID\u201d<\/strong>.\u00a0 \u201cCasual\u201d observations will not be included in team totals.\u00a0 To this end, inclusion of supporting evidence (usually a photo or sound recording) will be very helpful.<\/p>\n PRIZES AND FAME<\/strong> will be lavished upon those found worthy of the title \u201cInternational Biodiversity Champions!\u201d\u00a0 Current sponsors include the Ecological Society of America, NaturalistPodcast.com, and Code5design.net<\/p>\n QUESTIONS<\/strong> can be sent to biodiversitychampionship@gmail.com<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n We look forward to your registration, and your amazing sightings!<\/p>\n
