Rangelands are typically managed principally with extensive practices, such as managed livestock grazing and prescribed fire, rather than more intensive agricultural practices of seeding, irrigation, and the use of fertilizers.<\/p>\n<h2>Rangeland ecology<\/h2>\n<p>is the study of rangeland organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems, and thus spans many disciplines in ecology, such as soil ecology, physiological ecology, plant-animal interactions, evolutionary ecology, biogeochemistry, ecosystem management, human ecology, and much more!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-348 size-full img-fluid\" src=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/rangeland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2019\/07\/cropped-P5070107.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/rangeland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2019\/07\/cropped-P5070107.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/esa.org\/rangeland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2019\/07\/cropped-P5070107-300x86.jpg 300w, https:\/\/esa.org\/rangeland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2019\/07\/cropped-P5070107-768x221.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Rangeland Ecology Section of ESA<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"card-title\"><strong><em>Who we are<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<div class=\"card-text\">\n<p class=\"card-excerpt\">Rangeland ecology is often applied and interdisciplinary, so our Section\u2019s diverse membership includes basic and applied ecologists; social scientists; soil, water, and climate scientists; land managers, traditional ecological knowledge-keepers, and policymakers \u2014 all of whom contribute to and benefit from deepening our understanding of these magnificent and valuable landscapes!<\/p>\n<p>Our community welcomes and seeks new members who bring different perspectives and multiple sources of knowledge. That diversity is vital to keep our field thriving, innovative, relevant, and effective.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"card-title\"><em><strong>What we do<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"card-text\">\n<p class=\"card-excerpt\">Our purpose is to facilitate communication of all aspects of rangeland ecology and management among applied and basic ecologists, natural resource managers, indigenous land stewards, and interested members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>At the annual ESA meetings, we get together to celebrate student <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/rangeland\/awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AWARDS<\/a>, network with fellow rangeland ecologists and stewards, and plan exciting symposia, organized oral sessions, and special sessions of interest to our membership.<\/p>\n<p>We maintain a listserve to keep our members in touch and informed about jobs, events, and relevant news.
