Judges play an important role in recognizing outstanding student research and supporting the next generation of ecologists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judges are needed for the following awards:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Murray F. Buell Award \u2013 student oral presentations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E. Lucy Braun Award \u2013 student poster presentations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Responsibilities_Eligibility\"><\/span>Responsibilities &amp; Eligibility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judges are asked to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sign up to review 5 (ideally) or more student presentations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend assigned oral or poster presentations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage with presenters and ask questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a brief online evaluation form for each presentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judges <strong>may not volunteer<\/strong> to evaluate presentations where a <strong>conflict of interes<\/strong>t exists (e.g., an advisee, member of your research group, close collaborator, personal friend, or someone whose thesis committee you serve on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is helpful though not required for judges to have experience evaluating scientific research and presentations. <strong>Students are not eligible to serve as judges.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Evaluation_Criteria\"><\/span>Evaluation Criteria<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presentations are evaluated based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Significance of ideas \u2014 How important or impactful is the work?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creativity \u2014 Does it show originality or innovative thinking?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality of methodology \u2014 Are methods sound and appropriate?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Validity of conclusions \u2014 Do the results support the claims?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarity of presentation \u2014 How well is the work communicated?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you for your interest in supporting ESA students and their research.
