in partnership with\u00a0the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), the ESA-SEEDS Critical Skills to Scale Up Ecology Workshop provides critical skills for graduate students interested in working with multiple spatio-temporal datasets to address ecological questions.\u00a0 Knowledge and skills learned in the workshop apply to ecological data from many different sources, including height=\"391\"><\/p>\n<h3>Virtual Format<\/h3>\n<p>Originally designed to be a 40-hour workshop, this workshop was offered\u00a0<strong>over two months in fall 2021 from September 2 to October 26.<\/strong>\u00a0Participants completed both the Data Carpentries segment and the NEON data exploration segment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Benefits<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Acquire core data science skills with a focus on reproducible methods including:\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">Code documentation, sharing and reproducible workflows.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">Using version control (GitHub) to support collaborative method development and to backup work.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\">Documenting and publishing methods and workflows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Learn how to access and work with a wide variety of NEON data<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Learn how knowledge and skills gained may be applied to ecological data from many different sources<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Expand your network of data scientists and other professionals<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Connect with a diverse community of peers\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Commit to at least 80% of each segment.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Must attend preworkshop orientation and introductions<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Complete all assigned coursework in a timely manner to fully participate in the next session<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Be prepared to use Slack and Google folders to communicate and access materials<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Deliver a presentation based on an independent project using NEON data\u00a0<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Access to internet and computers\u00a0<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Abide by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230430114050\/https:\/\/esa.org\/events\/code-of-conduct-for-esa-events\/\">ESA\u2019s Code of
