This workshop is designed for student researchers looking to enhance their skills in ecological research, with a special focus on the practical applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">In this workshop, you\u2019ll dive into analyzing and visualizing data from the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) using GIS tools. You\u2019ll also have the unique opportunity to visit a NEON site to observe firsthand how data is collected, and participate in field data collection exercises. Beyond the technical skills, this workshop is a platform to connect with peers who share your interests in ecology and environmental research. It\u2019s an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and practice GIS analyses with scientists from various disciplines. The goal is provide a welcoming, creative and supportive environment for graduate students to connect and share their own experiences, while learning a new skill and develop a professional network.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>May 20 \u2013 Arrivals and welcome event\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>May 21 \u2013 Introductions, survey and briefing\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>May 22 \u2013 Field Trip to The Jones Center at Ichauway in GA, visit NEON tower and field exercise.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>May 23 \u2013 Working groups, discuss and analyze results<\/li>\n<li>May 24 \u2013\u00a0Presentations, review and feedback<\/li>\n<li>May 25 \u2013 Departures and Travel\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program within the United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demonstrate either prior work in ecology or related field or interest in connecting your disciplinary background to ecological questions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Address how your participation contributes to diversity, equity and inclusion of underrepresented scientists in ecology.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Must attend all scheduled workshop events from May 20-24, 2024.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deliver a presentation based on an independent project using NEON data.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Must bring a personal computer, internet access will be provided.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Abide by <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/about\/code-of-ethics\/\">ESA Code of Ethics<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/events\/code-of-conduct-for-esa-events\/\">Code of Conduct<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> throughout the workshop and when interacting with participants,
