For example, projects requested to be completed in the Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 semesters must be submitted by August 11, 2026. <\/strong>Applications may be submitted earlier, and we will award on a rolling basis \u2013 we do not recommend waiting until the last minute to submit a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"201341983\":0,\"335559738\":40,\"335559739\":0,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">The SEEDS Campus Ecology Chapter must be in <a href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/seeds\/seeds-chapter-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Active In Good Standing<\/a> status with the SEEDS program.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">New Chapters must be established for at least 30 days prior to the grant proposal deadline (from the date of the new chapter acceptance letter) to be eligible for a Chapter Grant<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and must be\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">recognized as a student organization\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">by\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e college or university.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Projects must be led by undergraduate Chapter members.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Chapter President must sign proposals and a faculty adviser must serve as project director.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><b>What We Do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Not<\/span> Fund<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Projects\u00a0that support research activities of individuals (faculty or students)<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Projects that do not engage underrepresented audiences in ecology or extend the mission of SEEDS<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Travel expenses to meetings and conferences\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">that are not organized by the chapter (or chapters)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Salaries, indirect or overhead costs<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><b>Examples of Chapter Projects<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Chapter Collaborations:\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e.g.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0collaborative thematic projects\u202fto build a sense of cohesion in the SEEDS chapter network such as a water sustainability program or urban ecology project\u00a0or\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">regional undergraduate conferences\u202fthat feature student research and career development activities\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">(<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">We strongly encourage chapters to work with others within reasonable proximity or virtually)<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Outreach activities:<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> local or regional\u202ffield\u202fexperiences or Bioblitz\u202fto encourage local ecological knowledge and connection to local scientists and professionals<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, projects with K-12 students and\/or teachers, community members, etc.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Research activities: supporting opportunities for active participation of Chapter students to conduct and communicate ecology research.\u00a0 This should be student-led research by the chapter and should not be the independent study research of a single student or the research project of the faculty adviser\/s.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Career development: hosting an ecology career fair for students on campus<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Student development: local field trips for students to become exposed to areas of ecological interest.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233279\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">NOTE: Projects that involve infrastructure development e.g. a garden or installation of hardware in a public space must have the commitment of the host organization to maintain it. A letter from the relevant authorities must be submitted with the proposal.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"201341983\":0,\"335559739\":160,\"335559740\":259}'>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><b>Scope and Size of Awards<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Grants will be awarded up to $1,500 for individual chapter projects and up to $5,000 for collaborative chapter projects, subject to the review committee\u2019s recommendation. The amount requested should reflect the size and scope of the project. A higher ranking will be given to projects with broad impact and dissemination and to those that include matching funds (anything from a small campus fundraiser to large institutional support).
