encourage artistic engagement with environmental science and allow scientific research to reach individuals from a broad range of backgrounds.<\/p>\n

The EcoArt Competition celebrates photography and multimedia creations that convey an understanding of and appreciation for ecology. Past submissions to the festival include photographs, paintings, videos, and other art forms created by scientists and community members that depict natural settings or artistic interpretations of current environmental issues.\u00a0<\/span>Art provides a unique opportunity to communicate scientific ideas in ways more universal and interdisciplinary than traditional outlets, such as research talks and publications. This award celebrates those outstanding visual arts contributions made by ESA members.<\/p>\n

AWARD\u00a0<\/h3>\n

Prizes for Eco-Vision award winners vary from year to year, based on donations from sponsors. Winning submissions will be featured on the Student Section\u2019s website and exhibited during the annual meeting.<\/p>\n

ELIGIBILITY + NOMINATION<\/h3>\n

All mediums are accepted, but entries must be submitted as photographs\u2014this can mean submitting a photograph as an entry OR submitting a photograph of your art piece. Winners must attend the Student Section\u2019s Award Ceremony at the annual meeting to receive their award. Entries are encouraged to address the annual meeting\u2019s theme.\u00a0 We will accept up to THREE submissions per applicant, but each applicant may only win one award.<\/p>\n

\n

SELECTION CRITERIA<\/h3>\n

Entries will be judged on their aesthetic qualities and their link to the theme of the annual meeting. Entries that offer contributions to ecological education, ecological communication or have particular technical, aesthetic, and creative qualities are encouraged. Judging for the Eco-Vision Competition is run through Facebook, with submissions voted on by group members and final decisions confirmed by Student Section board members.
