Hit us up at <a href=\"mailto:students.esa@gmail.com\">students.esa@gmail.com<\/a> and we\u2019ll get back to you asap!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"EventCategory\">\n<h2>So you\u2019ve decided to attend \u2013 here\u2019s the gameplan<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>First thing = register for the meeting ($167-197 for students that are members of ESA, $225-280 for students that are not members of ESA).\u00a0Fees vary based on when you register, so make sure you hit the Early Bird Registration deadline:\u00a0<em><strong>5pm EST on JUNE 16th, 2016<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ftlauderdale\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click HERE to register<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Second step = get your airline tickets. You can imagine how fast seats fill up on those flights, given the thousands of meeting attendees each year.<\/li>\n<li>Next step = figure out where you\u2019re gonna rest your head, which WILL be swimming with scientific over-stimulation. This year, ESA does not have dorm rooms available, so you gotta get a little creative and, most likely, you gotta share.\n<ul>\n<li>Share a house:\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/s\/fort-lauderdale?ss_id=gu2qzm6e&amp;s_tag=5UalOrXA\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click HERE to search for something good<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Share a hotel: ESA offers a roommate forum <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/esa.org\/ftlauderdale\/registration\/ride-and-room-sharing-forum\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HERE<\/a>, but it\u2019s always fun to rally some of your colleagues in advance<\/li>\n<li>Room with a local colleague<\/li>\n<li>Avoid hostels, slightly cheaper, but high rates of crime and poor lodging conditions (reports of bed bugs and drug activity)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Last step = check out the workshops and field trips being offered at the meeting. Volunteer!<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>Volunteers at the annual meeting are eligible for a full refund of their meeting registration fees, as long as they complete their time requirements.<\/p>\n<p>ESA will select around 100 responsible undergraduate and graduate students as volunteers to help out during the ESA Annual Meeting. Tasks vary, but they all help this large, complex event run smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>Student Volunteer applications must be received by the <strong><em>June 16th, 2016<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Early Bird Registration deadline. Keep your eyes peeled for the official call for applications.<\/p>\n<div id=\"EventCategory\">\n<h2>Conference tips<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Participate in Student Section events!!\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esastudents.org\/annual-meeting\">Click HERE<\/a>\u00a0to see the lineup<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t over-schedule yourself with talks<\/li>\n<li>Network with other students, not just professors (these are your colleagues-to-be)<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t just hang with people you know<\/li>\n<li>Introduce yourself to the speakers you liked<\/li>\n<li>Invite people that you connect with out to lunch \/ coffee \/ dinner \/ drinks<\/li>\n<li>Attend workshops, mixers and field trips (small-group events)<\/li>\n<li>Ask around for talk recommendations<\/li>\n<li>Set a goal for the week: meet 5 people, introduce yourself to your academic hero, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most importantly: relax, make friends, have a blast!!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"EventCategory\">\n<h2>A little more about Fort Lauderdale<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Public Transit<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7 day unlimited ride bus pass for $20 (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broward.org\/BCT\/Fares\/Pages\/BusPassPurchase.aspx\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>TriRail is better for longer distance travel from Miami to West Palm Beach (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tri-rail.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Some conference hotels provide an airport shuttle, if not, a cab ride is about $13 from the Fort Lauderdale Airport to the general conference area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bars\/Nightlife<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are several bars and restaurants along the beach on N Atlantic Ave \u2013 bus route 40 from the conference center<\/li>\n<li>Las Olas Blvd, just north of Ft. Lauderdale Beach is also great for nightlife \u2013 also bus route 40 from the conference center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Quiet Study Areas\/Coffee Shops<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coffee shop located in the conference center<\/li>\n<li>Starbucks down the street, west of the conference center on SE 17th St<\/li>\n<li>The Student Section room; reserved for students all day and everyday of the conference (113, FCC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Extra thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the Beach! Fort Lauderdale Beach is a 5 minute bus ride away (2-3 miles on bus route 40). \u00a0Several restaurants\/bars along ocean front\/ N Atlantic Ave<\/li>\n<li>Zainojet (water jetpacks) is a fun, unique activity for Florida, with one located nearby in the Fort Lauderdale Marina (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zainojet.com\/index.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>; expensive, starting at $250, but can usually get a 50% off coupon on living social or groupon)<\/li>\n<li>Sea Experience has glass bottom boat trips and scuba diving\/snorkeling trips starting at $35 per person, also in Ft. Lauderdale Marina (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.seaxp.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Duck boat tours of Ft. Lauderdale in amphibious vehicle for $32, a classic tour of local Ft. Lauderdale sights both on land and water (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fortlauderdaleducktours.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Check out the Museum of Discovery and Science located in downtown Ft. Lauderdale boasting live gators, turtles and other native Florida flora and fauna.
