Moreover, new conditions have changed our ideas about what resource benefits may be offered by natural systems. We now think of nature-based solutions for issues such as carbon storage and flood protection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this meeting we invite discussion between those engaged in fundamental research advancing our understanding of natural systems and those tasked with the application of ecological science to manage resources.&nbsp;Conceptual and theoretical advances in ecology are essential tools for navigating novel conditions.&nbsp;As natural systems respond to novel conditions, we need a tighter connection between new ecological science and our plans for resources. With this perspective, we hope to foster broad conversations between scientists, managers, policy makers and the public.
