Ambassadors Program
Description
If you are already immersed in 4DEE implementation, you know the power of ESA’s Four-Dimensional Ecology Education Framework to achieve ecoliteracy in a changing world! Interested in spreading the word about 4DEE to new audiences? The ESA 4DEE Ambassador Program could be for you!
What do Ambassadors do?
Ambassadors are active members of the 4DEE community who deliver a scheduled talk, workshop or poster on 4DEE at an event that will reach other undergraduate faculty, engage them exchange around how ecology is taught in biology, environmental sciences or other disciplines and share the 4DEE resources that have been developed. Whether or not you require travel support for an upcoming event, we encourage you to apply to be a 4DEE Ambassador and be part of the growing community active in 4DEE.
Please note, due to funding restrictions, this program is not intended to reach out to K12 educators or students.
You could:
- Present teaching resources published by others in the 4DEE network
- Present original work reviewed by the 4DEE community
- Present 4DEE materials provided by ESA
- Facilitate workshops for attendees to incorporate 4DEE into their teaching
Who is Eligible?
- All past participants and mentors of the TEE Faculty Mentoring Networks (only those who have not already tapped the TEE FMN travel benefit can apply for funding)
- All current and past 4DEE subcommittee and working group members
- All current and past TEE Steering Committee members
- All who have published on 4DEE
- Must be on Higher Education faculty within the United States of America and eligible to receive federal funding
What do Ambassadors receive?
To recognize your effort, Ambassadors will receive:
- A stipend toward conference presentations and reimbursement of expenses. See Stipends and Reimbursements below.
- Access to Dependent Care funds if needed
- Professional development support for presentations e.g., tips on presentation techniques
- A certificate of recognition as an ESA 4DEE Ambassador
- A letter to your administrator/department head/chair etc. recognizing your role as an active leader within the 4DEE network
- A listing in a national directory of 4DEE Ambassadors for future speaking opportunities
What type of events will be considered?
This might be a regional / local or national conference organized by a scientific society that will reach college educators / faculty new to ESA. It could even be an appropriate event on your own campus! While you are free to deliver presentations at an event further away, grant support for travel will be limited. See Stipends and Reimbursements. The ESA Annual Meeting will not be considered for this program.

Stipends and Reimbursements
- $200 stipend for a campus event, an online conference or in person presentation
- Up to $400 reimbursement to cover conference attendance that require travel
- Up to $400 additional reimbursement for the higher national conference registrations
- Up to $400 for Dependent Care reimbursement based on documented need
Your participation creates an impact!
We ask Ambassadors to:
- Distribute literature provided about 4DEE
- Invite presentation attendees to join the 4DEE listserv
- Estimate the number of attendees for reporting purposes
- Submit photographs of attendees for our publicity (may need to obtain photo release)
- Forward contact information to ESA from those you might have held conversations with on 4DEE
- If appropriate, collect feedback from participants via a brief survey, exit ticket or other means.
- Report back to the 4DEE Subcommittee with a brief summary of the activity, insights and ideas for next steps (1 page max.).
To receive all the program benefits, we ask 4DEE Ambassadors to submit your presentation materials and requested items above within 15 days of the event.
How to Participate
To participate, please apply one month in advance of the event through this portal with requested event information. Selection will be based on presentation opportunities, audience/s and subject to availability of funds. We aim to confirm within two weeks of submission.
