Comments: Strongly influenced by William S. Cooper in graduate school.
Teaching history: N.C. State 1935-46; Rutgers 1946-71. Summers at Itasca Biol. Sta. (Minnesota) for many years. After retirement taught at Yale, Minnesota, Georgia, Arizona, UC-Davis, UC-Santa Barbara, Montana, and Colorado State.
