General Funds

This award enables graduate students to travel to the nation’s capital, where ESA is headquartered, and meet with lawmakers. Participants learn methods to advocate for funding for environmental research  and promote the sciences.

Students are the life blood of our profession. Their participation at the Annual Meeting is essential to advancement of their careers and a source of vitality and excitement for our meetings. Help students attend the Annual Meeting by supporting the Les Real/Jim Brown Student Travel Fund.

Your contributions allow SEEDS, Strategies for Ecology Education, Diversity and Sustainability, to decrease our dependence on external funding. When you make a contribution to the program, you help secure an independent fund that enables students to discover new and big ideas in research, a passion for science, and the wide range of possible careers in ecological fields.

In the past two years, ESA has used the Opportunity Fund to support dependent care grants for attendees to the Annual Meeting. Help us reach our goal of being an inclusive home for all ecologists including those with families and dependents.
