Field Trip
We are excited to offer two field trips during the Conference to the Raptor Center, at University of Minnesota for a minimal fee of $10 for paid conference participants. Individuals who have not registered for the conference are not able to participate in these trips.
The Raptor Center
Established in 1974 as part of the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine, The Raptor Center rehabilitates more than 700 sick and injured raptors each year, while helping to identify emerging environmental issues related to raptor health and populations. An internationally renowned education facility, The Raptor Center trains veterinary students and veterinarians from around the world to become future leaders in raptor medicine and conservation. In addition, The Raptor Center reaches more than 200,000 people annually through its unique public education programs and events. More information can be found at www.raptor.cvm.umn.edu.
Program Desciption:
This exciting program, based on Minnesota and national science standards, is a learning experience your group will not soon forget. This program is ideal for groups or interactive family events. We explore the different raptors found in Minnesota and their role in the environment. Participants learn the three key features of all raptors and learn why they are different from other birds. We discuss the positive and negative impact humans have on our environment, and participants are inspired by some of our greatest environmental success stories, such as the peregrine falcon and the bald eagle.
Finally, we learn about The Raptor Center and its important role in protecting raptors and the world we share. Everyone leaves feeling inspired and empowered, having learned specific things they can do to help protect raptors and the environment.
