Petition to Create a New ESA Chapter in the Northeast Region of North America
The Northeast region of North America encompasses a vast diversity of ecosystems, communities, and species. The Northeast showcases vast coastlines, diverse river valleys, unique marine environments, dominant mountains, and growing cities. It is also home to leading research intuitions and ecological research sites, as well as practitioners and policymakers at the forefront of environmental advancement. As an area of North America most affected by a changing climate and high population density, it’s imperative the ecology of the region is well-represented.
It is the purpose of this petition to establish the Northeast Chapter of ESA to connect ecologists across the region and serve as a platform to uplift academics and professionals in ecology. We aim to foster a robust group that builds upon ESA’s missions and promotes ecological knowledge across the Northeast.
The benefits of a chapter include:
- A community of ecologists that can support each other, train the next generations of scientists, and share their knowledge with the public
- A dedicated voice representing the Northeast Region and its members to the ESA Council and Governing Board
- Dues money for projects and activities that benefit members of the region as determined by the chapter members
- Providing a platform to maintain the collective knowledge of ecologists across the local knowledge providers, professional ecologists, and academics of the Northeast
All ESA members who support these goals are encouraged to sign this petition; it does not obligate one to join the chapter if approved by Council.
The undersigned members of the Ecological Society of America support the establishment of a Northeast Chapter:
