SS11: An Evening of Art and Music, Sacramento Convention Center, 313

Monday, August 11, 2014: 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM

ESA has always promoted music at the annual meeting. We plan to interweave open mic musical offerings with a display of art. All artists and musicians are encouraged to sign up for a slot below. We will accommodate as many artists and musicians as we can, possibly combining some visual and musical offerings. Please join us for a break from the usual science for an evening of art and music.

We plan to interweave a display of visual arts (painting, drawing, photography) by ESA artists with musical performances in an open-mic forum. Space and time will be limited, so please sign up for a slot while there is still the chance.

For the Artists

We will display images of your art on screen behind the musicians. Please send all images to Jessica Shade (shade@berkeley.edu) by June 30th along with your name, the title of the art, and the medium it was created in (ex. photo, acrylic, oil paint, encaustic, etc.).  If you would like to speak briefly about your art please indicate that on the sign-up sheet and in the email with your image.

For the Musicians

We will provide acoustic microphones, a sound board (with a sound man) and a PA system. We cannot provide any instruments (such as a keyboard), but you can plug your instrument directly into the sound board if you wish. We will have a couple of microphones, so group performances are encouraged. If your music has a link to your science, we hope you can briefly tell the audience about it. Depending on the sign-up and interest, you will have a 10 to 20 minute slot for performance.

Space is limited, so please sign up early.
