Sustainable agriculture through cooperation

To promote sustainable agriculture, the EU has developed agri-environmental-climate measures (AECMs) as part of its Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). They are intended to encourage farmers to integrate measures for biodiversity, ecosystem services, and climate protection on their land. The new CAP legislation of 2023 highlights the importance of innovative approaches such as cooperative AECMs, but willingness to participate is still unclear. Therefore, researchers from the Universities of Göttingen and Kassel, as part of the research project “”COOPERATIVE – Promoting Biodiversity at the Landscape Level,”” have identified factors that motivate farmers to participate in cooperative AECMs. The results have been published in the journal Earth Stewardship.
