A greater diversity of herbaceous and woody plants in olive groves can promote bird abundance and diversity without negatively affecting production. This is demonstrated by a new study led by the Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC) and the University of Jaén, which indicates the existence of key ecological thresholds for promoting biodiversity in this traditional crop without sacrificing its profitability. The work has been published in the journal Ecological Applications.
