Climate change is transforming ecosystems and directly influencing the seasonal movements of many animal species. In the Serengeti, changes in the distribution of migratory herbivores can have important consequences for predators that depend on prey such as wildebeest and zebras. A long-term study by scientists from the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (Leibniz-IZW) and international collaborators now shows that Serengeti spotted hyenas respond remarkably flexibly to these changes.
